Lead Plumbing Fixture Replacement Assistance Grants Still Available
The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission invites schools that have not yet applied for the Lead Plumbing Fixture Replacement Assistance Grant program to do so. Funding is still available to assist schools across the state with the replacement of eligible lead plumbing fixtures. The program provides funding to eligible schools to reimburse for the assessment and replacement of drinking fountains, water coolers, plumbing fixtures and limited connected piping. Schools built before 1990 can apply for reimbursement up to $15,000 for the assessment of eligible fixtures and the material costs to replace fixtures identified as being over the federal action level for lead in drinking water. The program is open to traditional public schools, community schools, and chartered nonpublic schools. Draft of Summary of Ohio’s ESSA Plan Released On Thursday, the Ohio Department of Education released a draft of the state’s plan for implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Diabetes Survey Deadline Extended to February 15 Ohio Revised Code Section 3313.7112 requires that all public school districts must submit an annual diabetes survey. The online survey is available here . The deadline for submitting the survey has been extended to Feb. 15, 2017. The survey is brief and should incorporate school-nurse data on diabetes for your district or school. Ohio public school districts and chartered nonpublic schools are required to annually report to the Department the number of students with diabetes enrolled in the district or school during the previous school year. They also must report the number of errors associated with the administration of diabetes medication to those students during the same time period. Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3) Ohio is a member of the Interstate Compact for Educational Opportunities for Military Children, which is working to ensure that military children are properly enrolled in schools, have eligibility for school activities and have assistance in meeting graduation requirements. Educator License/Coach Fees Waived Ohio Educator license, permit or certificate fees and - renewal fees - will be waived for candidates who are veterans or current service members of all branches of the United States Armed Forces, including the National Guard or Reserves. Betsy M. Cowles Award
Betsy M. Cowles Award Winner to be Presented at the BASA Women’s Conference on March 20, 2017
The Betsy M. Cowles Award is given annually to a woman who exemplifies outstanding administrative leadership. Betsy Cowles was one of the earliest and most notable female superintendents in the State of Ohio. She is known for her contributions to education, abolitionism and women’s rights. Ms. Cowles was a risk taker and stood for what she believed. She spoke out against the Black Laws which kept African Americans from voting in Ohio. She actually quit her teaching job when the school where she was working refused to admit black students. Please find attached the application form to nominate a person for this award. Deadline for submitting the application is February 25, 2017 .
Superintendent Licensure Program
University of Dayton/BASA Superintendent Licensure Program - Cohort The UD/BASA Superintendent Licensure Program-Cohort is a unique collaborative program designed to maximize the professional expertise and resource base for superintendents from BASA and the approved licensure program and demanding curriculum of the University of Dayton. The program will provide a cohort of Ohio educators with a convenient, rigorous, practice-based program leading to an Ohio license as a superintendent. Up to 25 Ohio educators will be admitted into the program by the University of Dayton. The cohort group will complete the University of Dayton’s approved program Leading to Licensure as an Ohio Superintendent Instruction of the coursework will be provided by University of Dayton faculty, R. Kirk Hamilton, Executive Director of BASA; David Axner, Deputy Executive Director of BASA and Jerry Klenke, CEO/ President of the Ohio School Leadership Foundation.
