Gaining Influence by Embracing Your Story
Our brains love a good story! Research supports the power of good storytelling. In fact, Harvard Business Review points out how many, "have already discovered the power of storytelling in a practical sense – they have observed how compelling a well-constructed narrative can be..." They are so powerful, "stories change our attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors."
Your unique path is compelling and carries great worth. But, how do you tap into this and draw out your experiences in a way that is impactful and influential to those around you?
Using the book "Educated: A Memoir" by Tara Westover, Diane Egbers will facilitate a lively interactive session using the author's story as a launch point. The audience will apply the writing into critical learning specifically geared for women leaders. Diane will highlight poignant and illustrative parts of the author's story as well as sharing her own personal story. She will offer to attendees strategies and tips for capturing and telling their own stories. Along the way, attendees will have the opportunity to ask specific questions, share insights, and test elements of their own stories with the entire group.
You'll realize how unique your story is as a professional woman, how to embrace that story, and in turn become more influential with every audience.

Rick Manoloff, attorney with Squire Patton Boggs, will share lessons learned on how best to avoid communication mishaps at work. David James and Ryan Pendleton, Superintendent and Treasurer from the Akron Public Schools, will share the process of developing a public-private partnership that resulted in the LeBron James I Promise School. There will be 28 individual learning sessions targeting issues of leadership, finances, facilities, and the law, and an expo with 35 vendors sharing their services and products. Delisle is the President and CEO of the ALliance for Excellent Education. She brings more than forty years of experience as a teacher, principal, curriculum coordi- nator, district superintendent, and state superintendent to All4Ed’s mission of ensuring that every student, especially those who are underserved, graduates from high school prepared for college, a career, and life. More recently, she served as executive director and CEO of ASCD and assistant secretary of elementary and secondary educa- tion in the Obama administration.

Beard served as the 2016-2017 president of the National Schools Boards Association (NSBA) based in the Washington, D.C. area and chairman of NSBA’s na- tional and regional nominating committees. Chairman of the NSBA past president’s advisory council. NSBA’s mem- bers are state school board associations across the Unit- ed States. Those associations provide training to nearly 90-Thousand school board members who serve 50-Million public school age children.
Romona Robinson, Journalist & Author
Romona Robinson is an eight-time Emmy Award-winning journalist with 30 years of public speaking experience. She was the first black female to anchor an evening broad- cast in Cleveland, as well as the first woman to solo anchor an evening newscast in the city. She is the author of the book “ A Dirt Road to Somewhere”.
