Bringing People Together to Make a Difference

This event is designed

specifically with school leaders in mind.

The purpose of this gathering is to raise awareness of the importance of accountability and to develop a common understanding of how accountability can be used to either support or inhibit student learning and school improvement. We welcome Steve McCammon, President, and George Thompson, former President and current Director of Strategic Initiatives, from The Schlechty Center, who will also be presenting at this event.

John Tanner , founder and executive director of Test Sense and author of The Pitfalls of Reform: Its Incompatibility with Actual Improvement , will be in our region to participate in a symposium. John will share what he is learning from efforts around the country focused on designing accountability programs that are consistent with principles of true accountability. Delisle is the President and CEO of the ALliance for Excellent Education. She brings more than forty years of experience as a teacher, principal, curriculum coordi- nator, district superintendent, and state superintendent to All4Ed’s mission of ensuring that every student, especially those who are underserved, graduates from high school prepared for college, a career, and life. More recently, she served as executive director and CEO of ASCD and assistant secretary of elementary and secondary educa- tion in the Obama administration.

Tami Chapek, Founder, WeInspireWe Tami Chapek is the founder and head coach of WeIn- spireWe – a unique leadership and career coaching or- ganization dedicated to supporting leaders, regardless of title or tenure, in their plight to rise up beyond their current state and amplify their impact on the world around them. Tami has nearly 20 years of corporate experience in team and individual coaching, marketing and advertising, most recently at Publicis Health. Karen Garza has dedicated her life to bettering educa- tional opportunities for all students. Over the last three de- cades, she has served in several roles, including superin- tendent and chief academic officer. In December 2016, she joined Battelle for Kids as the organization’s President and CEO. Prior to that role, she served as the superinten- dent of Fairfax County Public Schools, Virginia—the 10th largest school division in the U.S., the superintendent of Lubbock Independent School District, and the Chief Ac- ademic Officer for Houston Independent School District. Miranda A. Beard served as the 2016-2017 president of the National Schools Boards Association (NSBA) based in the Washington, D.C. area and chairman of NSBA’s na- tional and regional nominating committees. Chairman of the NSBA past president’s advisory council. NSBA’s mem- bers are state school board associations across the Unit- ed States. Those associations provide training to nearly 90-Thousand school board members who serve 50-Million public school age children.

Romona Robinson, Journalist & Author

Romona Robinson is an eight-time Emmy Award-winning journalist with 30 years of public speaking experience. She was the first black female to anchor an evening broad- cast in Cleveland, as well as the first woman to solo anchor an evening newscast in the city. She is the author of the book “ A Dirt Road to Somewhere”.
