CAREER ADVISING, STUDENT
3313.6020
Beginning in 2015-2016, each school district must have adopted a policy on career advising that specifies how a district will perform certain related activities and must update that policy at least once every two years. These activities include: linking subjects to career fields; training staff on advising students on career pathways; informing students of courses that can award both traditional academic and career-technical credit; and providing interventions or transitions to prepare students for post-secondary experiences. The policy must also require the creation of a plan to provide career advising to students in grades 6-12 and a plan to document the career advising provided to each student.
The policy must be publicly available and posted in a prominent location or on the district’s web site.

CAREER EDUCATION AND THE CURRICULUM
The state board of education’s model curricula for K-12 must “embed career connection learning strategies into regular classroom instruction.” These strategies are to be adopted in consultation with any office housed in the governor’s office. Each public high school must publish or provide, not later than April 1 of each year, in its newsletter, high school planning guide, regular publication provided to parents and students, or in a prominent location on the school website, information regarding an online education and career planning tool maintained by the Department of Job and Family Services in consultation with the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation. Each board of education is required to adopt a resolution describing how the district will address college and career readiness and financial literacy for grades seven and eight (and for any other grades that the board deems appropriate). The board is required to submit a copy of the resolution to the Ohio department of education. Career technical programs are required to spend at least 75% of the state career tech funding on costs directly associated with career tech offerings and not more than 25% on personnel expenditures. High school administrators and counselors will be surveyed annually regarding their use of the online education and career planning tool.
