ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND FINANCIAL LITERACY
3313.603
Each high school is also required to incorporate the academic content standards for economics, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship into one or more social studies credits or into the content of another class. A board of education must provide the education for epileptic children served by state, district, county, or municipal hospitals within the district’s boundaries unless 60% of the enrolled children reside in the same school district in the same or an adjoining county. Students may possess and use epinephrine autoinjectors provided that certain conditions are met. These include: information about the student and the medications; emergency contact information; instructions regarding treatment for students who receive a dose of the medicine but for whom the medicine was not prescribed; and a backup dose of the medicine provided by the parent or guardian. A board of education may procure epinephrine autoinjectors for use in emergency situation, and it is recommended that each school have at least two such autoinjectors if the board elects this option. The board must further require the superintendent to adopt a policy governing the use of the autoinjectors but only after consulting with a licensed health professional authorized to prescribe drugs. The policy must: 1)Include a prescriber-issued protocol specifying definitive orders for the autoinjectors and the dosages of epinephrine to be administered through them; 2)Identify the locations in each school where the autoinjectors are stored and the conditions under which they must be stored, replaced, and disposed; 3)Specify the individuals authorized to provide a dosage of epinephrine in an emergency situation; 4)Specify the training that individuals authorized to administer the dosage must complete; 5)Identify the emergency situations in which an approved individual may access and use the autoinjector; 6)Specify that assistance from an emergency medical provider must be requested immediately after the autoinjector is used; and 7)Specify any individuals (in addition to students, staff, contractors, school visitors) to whom a dosage can be administered in an emergency situation. The board, school district, school, and staff will not be liable in any civil action for damages unless the act or omission constitutes willful or wanton misconduct. Two or more educational service centers may enter into agreements, including installment purchases and lease-purchase contracts, for the purchase of textbooks, computer equipment and software, school buses, and utilities on behalf of their client districts. The goal is to provide for quantity discounts for such purchases.
