Applications are Currently Open for the Following Programs:

Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant The U.S. Department of Education has awarded the Ohio Department of Education $42 million for a Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant to build on its work to improve language and literacy development in our state’s children. The Department will distribute awards directly to local districts, community schools and early childhood education programs to improve literacy outcomes for children from birth through grade 12. The four-year subgrants will focus on developing model literacy sites in early childhood education programs and district preschools, as well as elementary, middle and high schools. The model sites will concentrate on implementing practices consistent with Ohio’s Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement, which is available on the Department’s website . The grant also will support professional learning and coaching. Details, including a request for application, grant proposal narrative, eligibility requirements, steps to apply, frequently asked questions and intent to apply are on the Comprehensive Literacy State Development grant webpage . 2020 Ohio School Climate State Grant The School Climate State Grant allows ODE to offer financial assistance to eligible school buildings to implement positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) and evidence- or research-based social and emotional learning initiatives. The grant prioritizes school buildings with economically disadvantaged rates above the state average and school buildings with high out-of-school suspension rates. The application period opened in the CCIP on Feb. 10 and closes March 12 at 3:59 p.m. The Department will notify grantees of their awards in April 2020. More information about the grant, applicant eligibility and application details are available here .

Applications are due March 6. Find application materials on the Appalachian Regional Commission website . High school seniors can learn more about business planning and product development. During the program, students will work with assigned mentors — local entrepreneurs and business leaders — to create business pitches and present them to investors. A winner will be selected to win seed funding. All students’ program expenses will be covered, and each participant will receive a $600 stipend. Innovative Leaders Institute The Innovative Leaders Institute is now accepting applications for a new class of Ohio educators. The program is one of the nation’s few training opportunities in which leaders of innovative schools can learn from veteran STEM principals. The program has trained more than 250 educators in Ohio and Tennessee. The Innovative Leaders Institute is open to teams of two school leaders — a building principal or assistant principal and an additional building-level leader. Each applicant must complete the online application. Apply with a co-applicant by March 3. Check out the Ohio STEM Learning Network website for details and the application .

She counted among her friends and acquaintances people such as Frederick Douglas, William Lloyd Garrison, Henry C. Wright and Abby Kelley Foster.
