Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant The U.S. Department of Education has awarded the Ohio Department of Education $42 million for a Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant to build on its work to improve language and literacy development in our state’s children. The Department will distribute awards directly to local districts, community schools and early childhood education programs to improve literacy outcomes for children from birth through grade 12. The four-year subgrants will focus on developing model literacy sites in early childhood education programs and district preschools, as well as elementary, middle and high schools. The model sites will concentrate on implementing practices consistent with Ohio’s Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement, which is available on the Department’s website . The grant also will support professional learning and coaching. Details, including a request for application, grant proposal narrative, eligibility requirements, steps to apply, frequently asked questions and intent to apply are on the Comprehensive Literacy State Development grant webpage . 2020 Ohio School Climate State Grant The School Climate State Grant allows ODE to offer financial assistance to eligible school buildings to implement positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) and evidence- or research-based social and emotional learning initiatives. The grant prioritizes school buildings with economically disadvantaged rates above the state average and school buildings with high out-of-school suspension rates. The application period opened in the CCIP on Feb. 10 and closes March 12 at 3:59 p.m. The Department will notify grantees of their awards in April 2020.
