First Appalachian Entrepreneurship Academy Appalachian high school seniors enrolled in the 2020-2021 school year are invited to apply for the first Appalachian Entrepreneurship Academy, a four-week, all expenses paid entrepreneurial experience. The academy takes place July 6-31 in Pittsburgh. Students from Ohio’s 32 Appalachian counties, enrolled as seniors during the 2020-2021 school year, are eligible to apply. Applications are due March 6. Find application materials on the Appalachian Regional Commission website . High school seniors can learn more about business planning and product development. During the program, students will work with assigned mentors — local entrepreneurs and business leaders — to create business pitches and present them to investors. A winner will be selected to win seed funding. All students’ program expenses will be covered, and each participant will receive a $600 stipend. Innovative Leaders Institute The Innovative Leaders Institute is now accepting applications for a new class of Ohio educators. The program is one of the nation’s few training opportunities in which leaders of innovative schools can learn from veteran STEM principals. The program has trained more than 250 educators in Ohio and Tennessee. The Innovative Leaders Institute is open to teams of two school leaders — a building principal or assistant principal and an additional building-level leader.
